It was the currency of the People's Republic of Tuva from 1921 till 1944 when Tuva joined the USSR. ![]() In Tuvanian and in other Turkic languages: Akşa (pronounced as Aksha) means "Money". ![]() The name was suggested by the Academy of the Hebrew Language and was borrowed from Torah "agorat kessef" meaning "a piece of silver".
